New age beliefs represent a syncretism that blends elements of “spirituality” with traditional Christian doctrine, creating a hybrid that diverges significantly from Biblical Christianity. This heretical amalgamation typically includes beliefs in universalism, the power of personal intuition, and a pantheistic view of God, which sees gods in all things. These conflict sharply with God’s Word when it comes to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice on the Cross, as outlined in the Scriptures.
Central to the new age Christian meaning is an idea that spiritual truth can be discovered through personal intuition or inner “enlightenment” rather than through the revelation of the Word of God. Here, the Scriptures show the unique nature of the God of the Bible, coming in complete and total contrast to new age belief that dilutes His sovereignty by merging God with His other creations in the universe.
“Salvation” in new age Christianity is viewed as an awakening to one’s own divinity; a realization of one’s spiritual unity with the cosmos. A read-through of Ephesians, particularly Ephesians 2:8-9, sheds light on this false doctrine: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Salvation, then, through understanding these verses, is a redemptive act accomplished by Jesus Christ on the Cross. This articulates that salvation is a gift from God received through faith in the Blood Atonement of Christ.
New age Christianity’s stance on universalism, the belief that all paths lead to God and that ultimately everyone will be saved, contradicts the nature of the Gospel of Jesus Christ presented in the Bible. See John 14:6: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Here Jesus, in His own words, says that salvation is exclusively offered through a single path; which is through Him.
New age Christianity misrepresents key Christian doctrines about God, salvation, and the authority of Scripture. It is essential to adhere to the teachings of the Bible, recognizing that salvation comes exclusively through the grace of God and the Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ, and not through enlightenment in a universalistic spiritual journey. This understanding ensures the preservation of the Gospel message in its purity and effectiveness in transforming all the souls that believe.
