In the parable of the Ten Talents, a man goes on a journey, entrusting his wealth to his servants. He gives them different amounts according to their abilities. Two of the servants doubled what they had been given. The other simply buried the money in the ground, hiding it away until his master’s return. However, the third servant presents the master with the one talent he had buried. He explains that he was afraid of losing it, so he hid it in the ground. The master responds with disappointment, calling him a wicked and slothful servant. He takes the one talent away from the unfaithful servant and gives it to the first servant who had ten talents, and the unfaithful servant is cast into outer darkness. It emphasizes the importance of being diligent, faithful, and responsible in using the resources and gifts God has provided, with the ultimate goal of hearing the commendation (as we see in Matthew 25:21): “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
